I love pretty things. What woman doesn’t? Pretty clothes, jewelry, handbags… it can be as simple as a new shade of nail polish to a nice pair of shoes. And even though our budget doesn’t always allow for these purchases, it’s still fun to look and save for something on my wish list. Over the years I’ve become more thoughtful about my purchases, trying to make smart financial choices while at the same time choosing quality, timeless items that I’ll have for years. I’ve also become more cognizant about where some of these products come from, who’s making them and the “untold” story behind them. Today I want to share with you one of my absolute favorite lines of jewelry and accessories. I call it “shopping with a purpose” and they are purchases I can feel good about giving and receiving.
Fashion & Compassion is a not-for-profit organization that “only sells products that are made by men and women who are overcoming poverty and oppression”, with 95% of the artisans being women.
“Fashion & Compassion exists to help transform communities through holistic economic empowerment that brings dignity and opportunity to individuals who have been caught in a web of poverty and injustice as they heal spiritually, emotionally & physically.”
One of my favorite collections is the Bullets to Blessings Collections and here’s why: “The Bullets to Blessings Collection is fair trade jewelry handcrafted from recycled bullets casings & vintage coins of brass, copper and nickel silver by HIV-positive women in Ethiopia. Net proceeds are donated to Hanna’s Home for abandoned children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.” Here’s a picture of one of my favorite necklaces from this collection.
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20
The Beauty & Dignity Collection is another personal favorite and here’s a favorite piece from that (I love wrap bracelets!).
My husband quickly learned of my love for Fashion & Compassion so come Christmastime, Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day he usually adds another beautiful, meaningful piece to my collection. Here’s a piece from Mother’s Day of last year. “She Laughs” is taken from Proverbs 31:25- She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
I encourage you to check out their website here and maybe put something on your wish list!
